2025 Joint New Zealand-Sweden-UNITAR High-Level 5th Committee Briefing
As the United Nations approaches its 80th anniversary, promoting a forward-looking dialogue on the Organization’s financing is more critical than ever. This executive-level session designed specifically for Permanent Representatives and Chargés d’Affaires aims to provide insights into the budgetary process for the Eightieth session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The session will feature a panel of senior officials and experts. A central component of the discussion will be the funding architecture of the Organization, the function of the Fifth Committee in the UN budget process, the roles of key bodies such as the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions (ACABQ), and the UN regular budget.
Understanding how the Fifth Committee operates, as the main body responsible for administrative and budgetary matters within the General Assembly, is essential for Permanent Representatives as they engage in high-level decision-making. This session will support Permanent Representatives and Chargés d’Affaires in navigating the complexities of the UN’s financial and governance systems and equip them to contribute meaningfully to ongoing budget negotiations.
