Antecedentes

As part of the CIFAL Miami Emergency Preparedness and Management Workshop (October 7–9, 2025), Florida International University (FIU) has designed and will deliver a 3-hour tailored cybersecurity training session on October 6, 2025. This Seminar provides participants with specialized knowledge on cyber risk management, response, and recovery strategies to strengthen organizational resilience. The training will focus on bridging the gap between traditional emergency preparedness and emerging cybersecurity challenges affecting public institutions, private entities, and critical infrastructure in the Caribbean and Southeast United States.

Objetivos del aprendizaje

By the end of the session, participants will be able to: •    Recognize and assess cyber risks relevant to their sector. •    Apply best practices for cybersecurity hygiene and access control. •    Design communication and response strategies for cyber incidents. •    Develop actionable recovery plans to ensure operational continuity. •    Identify opportunities for cross-sector collaboration in cyber resilience.

Contenido y estructura

Session Outline: •    Risk Assessment & Preparation: Key cyber threats and vulnerabilities for airports, businesses, and public agencies. •    Preventive Measures: Best practices for system protection and threat mitigation. •    Incident Response: Effective communication and operational coordination during cyber events. •    Recovery & Resilience: Ensuring continuity and integrating lessons learned. •    Emerging Topics: Cyber-physical convergence, legal frameworks, and simulation exercises.

Metodología

The session will combine expert-led presentations, practical case studies, and interactive scenario-based discussions. Emphasis will be placed on actionable, real-world strategies applicable to both public and private sector participants.
