UNITAR developed the 2024-2025 PCB Webinar Series to raise awareness and enhance global and national capacities towards the environmentally sound management of PCB.

The dramatic growth in chemical production and trade during the past decades has raised concerns about the potential risks posed by hazardous chemicals and pesticides. Countries lacking adequate infrastructure to monitor the import and use of these chemicals are particularly vulnerable.

Chemical hazards’ classification and communication systems are key elements of the sound management of chemicals. To harmonise these systems worldwide, the United Nations adopted, in 2003, the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS). The GHS is an important tool for countries to develop or modify national programmes and to facilitate trade.

The climate crisis is no longer a distant threat. Its impacts are here, and they are happening now – affecting billions of people around the world on a daily basis.
