The session aimed to support countries in the use of the Plastic Toolkit and the development of national plastic waste inventories.

Background

Knowledge and capacity are vital to addressing global challenges such as plastic pollution. To design effective, data-driven measures for plastic waste management, it is essential to understand plastic waste flows. The inventories provide insights into the effectiveness of current waste management systems and form the basis for developing effective, targeted strategies. This webinar strengthen participants’ ability to apply the Toolkit and build inventories to support evidence-based decision-making.

Learning Objectives

In the webinar, the methodology for developing a plastic waste inventory was explained, enabling participants to enhance their knowledge and build capacity in understanding plastic waste flows. During the webinar, participants got hands-on experience with the toolkit to estimate plastic placed on the market and plastic waste generated. At the end of the course, participants were able to interpret core indicators capturing key aspects of plastic flows.
